Alt Art
An alt art (alternate art) is a special version of a card featuring a completely different illustration from the regular print, usually a full-scene artwork.
Alt art is the community name for alternate-art cards: the same Pokémon and game text as a regular card, but with a brand-new illustration, typically a painterly full-card scene showing the Pokémon in its natural habitat or interacting with people.
The term became popular in the Sword & Shield era, where alternate art V and VMAX cards became the most sought-after pulls in their sets, often eclipsing the gold and rainbow cards above them in rarity. In the Scarlet & Violet era the same idea lives on as Illustration Rares and Special Illustration Rares. For many collectors, the alt art is the definitive version of a card because of the unique artwork.
